National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Scholars
Congratulations Adeline Doyle, Meghan Sullivan and Charles Swarts, who were named Commended Scholars in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

Nazareth congratulates Dr. Tom Nelson, recipient of the 2014 Jack Wheeler Memorial Award for his endless dedication, generosity and efforts to support Nazareth Academy and its students, families and surrounding community. The award was presented at the annual Jack Wheeler Memorial Golf Outing at Edgewood Valley Country Club on Monday, September 22, 2014.

Congratulations John Bonaguro, National Merit Scholar Semifinalist
Nazareth Academy is proud to announce that John Bonaguro ‘15 has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This academically talented senior is among the top 1% of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Many congratulations to Julia Saunders ’15, who was ranked 71 of the best USA-based recruits in Girls Volleyball (seniors) from across the nation as voted on by college coaches and published by Prepvolleyball. Julia has committed to play for University of Wisconsin Badgers.

Student Council Donates $10,000 to American Cancer Society
On August 12, 2014 Nazareth Academy Student Council officers presented a check for $10,500 to Katherine Toraason of the American Cancer Society. The large donation was the result of Lights Out for Cancer, a one-night event organized and hosted by Nazareth Academy on May 17, 2014.

Fifteen students at Nazareth Academy earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams. These include students from the Class of 2014 and the Class of 2015 and all reflect a high level of academic achievement and a commitment to Nazareth’s pillar of Scholarship.

It is the story of Seymour Krelbourn, a poor young man working at a run-down flower shop on Skid Row when he encounters a miracle, an alien plant, after a total eclipse of the sun. After bringing the plant to the store, he gains, fame, fortune and love. The only defect is that the plant feeds on blood. The evil continues...and the audience is warned: Don't feed the plant! | details

Spotlight

Science and Service
Each year the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) Club partners with a different organization. EPICS is helping the MidAmerica Service Dog Foundation this year. On September 17, the club, as well as Dr. Zasadzinski’s AP Physics class welcome a representative of the foundation, Amy Pawlik, also a Nazareth alum ‘03, to speak to students.

Opening School Mass
On the morning of September 5, the entire 2014-2015 Nazareth student body, faculty and staff gathered together for the first time in the Congregation of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel to celebrate an Opening School Mass.

On August 21, 2014, Nazareth Academy joyfully welcomed students to the 2014-2015 School Year. The members of the Class of 2018 had already begun their Nazareth journey with a two-day Orientation earlier in the week.

These principals are not only practiced during the school months. Summer 2014, and even the first week of school, saw hundreds of students volunteering time in service of others.

Football program partners with Letters Project
Nazareth Academy takes great pride in educating the whole person, including student-athletes. Our teams come together in ways beyond practice and games – to grow as individuals in service to others. Earlier in July, Nazareth’s Varsity Football players joined together with Letters Project to brighten the lives of children who are struggling with developmental disabilities and/or terminal illnesses.

First-Ever Marine Biology Trip
Nazareth Environmental Science teacher Mrs. DePasquale has a passion for marine biology. During Nazareth’s spring break, she shared that passion with fourteen students, freshmen through seniors, and her fellow teacher, Mr. Banasiak, when they travelled to Marine Lab in Key Largo for Nazareth’s first Marine Biology trip.
