LITURGIES

Throughout the school year, Masses and prayer services mark significant events, including the Opening of a new school year, Four Pillars recognition, Ash Wednesday, Junior Ring Blessing, Holy Week Living Stations of the Cross and the Closing School Mass and Graduation. In addition, Holy Days of Obligation are celebrated with all school Masses. School liturgies are celebrated in the Alexine Chapel.

SERVICE

The Nazareth Academy Service Team consists of the following committees: CSJ Mission, Drive Leaders, Liturgy Prep, Retreat Planning, and Service Sites - Caring Place for Kids, F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service and Hospitality), and St. Cletus Food Pantry. All Nazareth students are encouraged to become involved in the Service Team, which is a student run organization with an executive board leading each committee. Service Team officers promote and recruit volunteers for all activities sponsored by Campus Ministry, and homeroom representatives help communicate information about our annual drives, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lent.

RETREATS

Freshman and Sophomore retreat days are planned and conducted by the Campus Ministry team. The Freshman and Sophomore Retreat days take the place of a regularly scheduled school day and take place on the school campus.

Juniors attend an overnight retreat at the Christian Brothers LaSalle Manor Retreat Center in Plano, IL. For over 40 years, Nazareth Academy has had the privilege of partnering with LaSalle Manor as part of our students' retreat experience. Currently, all of our juniors are required to attend an overnight retreat at the Manor that is chaperoned by members of our faculty and staff. Year after year, Nazareth students have enjoyed the beautiful and peaceful setting of the Manor located in Plano, IL. This special time and space away from their usual routine, offers them the opportunity to reflect more on the presence of God in their lives and the person God calls them to be.

Seniors are given the opportunity to attend a Kairos Retreat. This four-day, three-night retreat, rooted in the Jesuit traditions and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, allows students time to reflect on their relationship with God, others, and self. This Christ-centered retreat experience, led by four adults and six fellow seniors, gives the students an opportunity to pause during their busy senior year, bond with classmates, and reflect on personal core values before moving on from Nazareth and beginning the next chapter of their lives.
