Advanced Coursework
At Nazareth Academy, courses are offered at college preparatory, honors, and advanced placement (AP®) levels.
All courses at Nazareth are academically challenging and ensure college readiness. We offer 24 Honors level courses and 16 AP® courses. Weighted grades are given for honors and advanced placement courses.
Enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement Courses
Incoming freshmen are invited into honors courses based on the High School Placement Test, their 7th and 8th-grade report cards, and their previous standardized testing.
Students already enrolled at Nazareth may pursue honors or AP® courses in English, fine arts, mathematics, science, social studies and world language. Enrollment in honors and AP® courses is dependent upon prior academic success and completion of prerequisite courses. In addition, honors and AP® courses require students to demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently, and a desire to actively contribute to the class.
Advanced Placement Offerings
Nazareth Academy offers 16 AP® courses, enabling students to take college-level courses and potentially receive advanced placement and/or course credit in college on the basis of their performance on the AP® examinations administered each May. All Nazareth Academy courses designated as AP® have been approved by the College Board and are authorized to use the “AP®” designation. This means that each of these courses meets or exceeds the expectations of colleges and universities for that course.
