The Legacy of Sister Pat Bergen, CSJ (’63)
Nazareth Academy’s Gospel Service Program is named in honor of Sister Pat Bergen, CSJ, a distinguished alumna of the Class of 1963. Sister Pat’s life work embodies empathy and the belief that all life is connected through God.
As a former Campus Minister in the 1980s, Sister Pat was instrumental in:
- Establishing Service Requirements: Solidifying the importance of community outreach for every student.
- Eucharistic Ministry: Making Nazareth the first school to mandate high school students as Eucharistic Ministers, a legacy that continues today.
- Building Relationships: Challenging us to see the face of God in everyone we meet and recognizing our intrinsic similarities.
The Sister Pat Bergen Gospel Service Program at Nazareth Academy is a graduation requirement that not only honors her years of service, it also offers a counter-cultural challenge to see the face of God in everyone we meet.
