Roadrunners Represent at IHSA State (2025-2026)

Nazareth Academy is committed to academic and athletic excellence while integrating learning and competition with Christian values and faith. We are proud of our growing legacy of success at the post-season and state levels and celebrate the ongoing achievements of our IHSA State Qualifying Student-Athletes and Teams.

Fall Sports

Girls Volleyball

State Runner-Up: The Girls Volleyball Roadrunners completed a remarkable turnaround season, bringing home the 2nd Place in State trophy. This marked their return to the State Finals for the first time since 2022.

Girls Cross Country

  • Sectional Champions: On November 1, the Girls Cross Country team qualified as Sectional Champions, marking their seventh consecutive year heading to State.
  • Historic Finish: At the State Meet in Peoria on November 8, the program earned its best-ever State finish, placing 11th.
  • State Runners: Kathleen Hardy, Maggie Morrisey, Allie O'Halloran, Julia Parkes, Claire Sigmund, Elena Vlahos, and Audrey Wendt.

Boys Cross Country

  • School History: The Boys Cross Country program qualified for the State Final Meet as a team for the first time in school history.
  • Sectional Performance: The team finished 7th at the Fenton Sectional, where Daniel Lewis earned an individual medal for his 8th Place finish.
  • State Runners: Thomas Gerros, Owen Hogan, Brendan Hyland, Daniel Lewis, Anthony Lopez, Patrick O'Reilly, and Lucas Weber.

Girls Diving

Ellie Fleischmann ’27: Qualified for the IHSA State Diving meet for the second consecutive year after earning 4th place at the IHSA Sectional. At the FMC Natatorium, she advanced to Saturday's final rounds by finishing in the Top 20 on Day 1.

Girls Tennis

Elaine McNamara '27: Finished in 2nd place at the IHSA Class 1A De La Salle Sectional to advance to the State Finals Class 1A Singles bracket in Arlington Heights.

Boys Golf

Axel Perez ’28: Shot a round of 74 at the IHSA 2A Sectional at White Pines Golf Club to finish in 9th Place and qualify for State. He completed his stellar season finishing 36th place in the State at Weibring Golf Course.

Winter Sports

Girls Basketball

  • IHSA Class 4A STATE CHAMPIONS: On Saturday, March 7, the Girls Basketball team finished their historic season with a victory over Loyola Academy to capture the IHSA Class 4A STATE TITLE. While the program previously won a 3A State Title in 2023, this milestone marks the very first 4A State Championship in school history!
  • Season Highlights: This Championship serves as the culmination of an outstanding season for our players and coaching staff. The Roadrunners were also crowned ESCC Champions, boasting four All-Conference players and one All-Conference Honorable Mention.
  • Milestone Victory: A special congratulations to Coach Ed Stritzel, who celebrated his 500th career win during this remarkable run.

Competitive Dance

  • Sectional Champions: On January 24, the Varsity Competitive Dance Team won the program’s first Class 2A IHSA Sectional Championship and advanced to the State Finals for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Top 10 Finish: With an exceptional performance at the Grossinger Arena in Bloomington, the team advanced to Day Two and finished 8th place overall in the State.

School Spirit & Student Section

  • Freddie Fanatics named IHSA Finalist: The Freddie Fanatics were named a 2026 finalist in the prestigious IHSA Student Section & Spirit Showdown! Nazareth placed among the final four schools in the 3A/4A Division.
  • The Heart of Nazareth: Through a powerful video submission, our Fanatics showcased service, love, unity, pride, and our unbreakable Roadrunner family.
  • Special Thanks: A heartfelt thank you to our Fanatic Tech Team Leaders Maggie Broderick, Hannah Ereio and Lexi Robbins for capturing our school spirit.

Spring Sports

Track & Field

Jacob Stubbs ’29: Took 2nd Place in Discus at Sectionals with a personal-best throw of 146 feet 4 inches to punch his ticket to the 3A IHSA State Championships at Eastern Illinois University.
