Drama and Theatrical Arts at Nazareth
The stage is set for creativity at Nazareth Academy. Our Drama program offers students a professional environment to explore their craft, build confidence, and bring stories to life.
From curriculum-based acting classes to high-energy mainstage productions, there is a place for every storyteller, performer, and technician in our theatre community.
The Nazareth Academy Drama Theatre Program is proud to participate in two distinguished statewide programs: the Illinois High School Theatre Festival and the Broadway In Chicago Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards. Participation in these programs reflects our commitment to artistic excellence, educational growth, and meaningful performance experiences beyond our school community.

Performance Opportunities
The Drama Program produces four shows each year. Two major mainstage productions with auditions open to the student body, regardless of previous experience, and two in-curriculum based shows for students enrolled in acting courses:
- Fall Play: A focus on dramatic or comedic storytelling that challenges students to inhabit complex characters.
- Spring Musical: A high-energy collaboration between our drama and choir departments.
- Children’s Show: Presented in December by our Advanced Acting Class, this special production is open to the public and serves our local community & grade schools.
- One Act Play: Presented in the spring by our Acting II & Advanced Acting Classes, this special production is open to the public and highlights the growth of our students theatrically and their leadership skills within the production side.
Academic Growth
Beyond the stage, Nazareth offers dedicated coursework in Speech and Acting, allowing students to earn fine arts credits while honing their public speaking and performance skills in a supportive classroom setting. Explore our Curriculum to see a full list of courses.
Nazareth is also proud to be a part of the International Thespian Honor Society as Troupe 5525. Members of Nazareth’s chapter exemplify excellence in performance, technical theatre, and scholarship while serving as leaders and role models within the Naz Drama community. In addition to actively participating in productions and coursework in performing and fine arts, Thespians contribute to the broader school community through theatre-related service, outreach, and mentorship.
